NZ Dr. Rudi
Originally named "Super Alpha" but recently renamed Dr. Rudi in honour of the “father of New Zealand hops”, is an elder statesman of the New Zealand craft brewing scene, released by HortResearch in 1976. It is a high-alpha triploid bred from an open cross of Smoothcone.
Intended as a bittering hop, but like many of its fellow New Zealand varieties that followed, Dr. Rudi possesses an oil profile that suits modern craft styles very well. Try in hoppy lagers, bitter and pale ale.
Alpha Acids: 10.0 – 12.0%
Beta Acids: 7.0 - 8.5%
Aroma & Flavor Characteristics: Moderate. Sweetly grassy with overtones of lemongrass, pine sap, and dried fruit.
